Mage Raiders – Hit It!

October 13 2009 (2 years ago)

mage-hit

(like space raiders but not afraid of the crunch!) Not content with being any other guide to mage hit this is the only guide you’ll need as a raiding mage (correct as of patch 3.2 and ignoring the inevitable possibility of multiple fatal flaws caused by my often severe mathematical ineptitude). There’s a treat for non mage spell casting folk here as 50% of this guide might be relevant to you too (no not you holy priest, we won’t be trying to dodge your heals).

Understanding hit

It’s obvious when it comes to getting in scraps that not all people are equal. For example, if I was to walk up to a stranger in Northfield (chavtowns) my chance of landing a punch on your average guy in the street would be less than his, we’ll describe this chance as my hit rating. On top of this if I was to stand 15 yards away, conjure up a rock from thin air and then try and throw said rock at aforementioned assailant, this would be my spell hit rating (yes I did start the fight, but deny everything). It’s important to not get these two types of hit confused because Blizz actually confirms that any pointy stick waving melee class or gun/bow toting huntard are un-complicated by comparison, by requiring a much lower hit cap calculated in a very different way.

As a DPS’er you need hit because it’s the single most powerful stat for increasing damage until you are capped, roughly equating to 1% additional damage per 1% additional hit (some people will try and dissuade you of this simple fact and it’s your duty to repeatedly /point and /lol until they understand that you aren’t going to take any notice of them). As soon as you are capped however this stat adds no additional value, so its in your interest to meet the cap but not exceed it.
